Coughanour Family Adoption

We are the Coughanour family. We have three biological children, ages 7, 5, and 2 1/2. Last summer when our youngest was about 18 months old, we felt called to adopt. The more we researched and prayed, the more we learned about how the Gospel is related to adoption. James 1:27 is now one of our favorite adoption verses: "Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for the orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you."

And over time, we've also learned how powerful Galatians 4:4-5 is: "God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons." For God to redeem us it cost Him the price of His Son's life. He adopts us into His kingdom. He speaks of us being adopted as well as being born again in Christ.

Although worried about finances at first, we soon accepted that the cost of us adopting an orphan is nothing compared to God adopting us. Plus, we feel like He has blessed us so much with three healthy biological children. Can't we do something for Him? Can't we gladly adopt a child who may need many years of medical attention or therapies? Can't we share our journey with others to help spread the Gospel? And although there may be struggles and hardship, won't it be amazing to raise another child in Christ? And we said, YES! Children are blessings.

We are in the beginning stages of adopting a toddler from China from a special needs program. So as we save money for our adoption, we are also being careful to save for future medical costs and/or therapies that might be needed once our child is home. Any proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to pay for the next 'chunk' of adoption costs including China's CCCWA fee (which is their child welfare system fee) and program fees to our adoption agency CCAI in the US. Thank you for your support. I believe God asks us all to help with orphans in some form. Please pray for our journey and for our little one in China whom we have yet to meet!
